Washburn County offers a wealth of financial and technical resources to businesses for expansion, relocation, or start-up.
Community Development Research Project
The Spooner Chamber of Commerce is currently exploring ways the Chamber can facilitate local business and community development. Please contact the Chamber for copy of the Spooner Market Profile completed in 2004. It can be sent to you by e-mail.
Loan Funds Local revolving loan funds are two such resources and are available through:
Washburn County Industrial Development Agency, 468-7683.
Northwest Wisconsin Business
Development Corporation, 635-2197.
Both revolving loan funds provide long-term, low-interest loans to be leveraged with other bank
financing.
Additionally, Northwest Regional Planning Commission and the University of Wisconsin-Extension
office,
both in Spooner, can provide educational and informational services to businesses and individuals
planning to start a business.
Through one or both of the agencies, business counseling or assistance is available to new and
existing
businesses in finances/accounting, business planning or research, marketing, expansion, new product
development, employee concerns, and other business endeavors.

Minong, two Tax Incremental Financing (TIFs), one with space available.
Shell Lake, two TIFs; lots with utilities available in one. Lots for housing and a duplex site
available along Reinhart Drive in second TIF.
Industrial parks
Birchwood, industrial park under development.
Minong, one full park plus a 16-acre park under develop-ment.
Shell Lake, one park. City recently purchased land to expand park.
Spooner, two parks with lots available.
Incubator
Spooner Business Enterprise Center provides below-market lease space, support service, and business
advice to young technology-based companies. Multi-tenant center encompasses three buildings with a
total of approximately 35,000 square feet; a fourth building is in the planning stage.
The center is part of a network of incubation centers; other sites are in Superior and Burnett,
Rusk, and Taylor counties.
