Northwood Figure Skating Club: Provides lessons to skaters aged 4 to adult, September through April; ice skating show

Hockey program: Spooner Area Ice Association, a volunteer, nonprofit organization, runs a hockey program for youths
aged 3 or 4 through middle school age. Divisions include Termite/Learn to Skate, Mites, Squirts, Peewees, Bantams,and
Midgets (for high school students). Teams play in the Western Wisconsin League, with their home ice at Northwest Sports
Complex, Spooner.

Excursion train
The Wisconsin Great Northern Railroad runs excursions between Spooner and Springbrook aboard a restored train.
The railroad uses a locomotive built in 1940, a caboose, a 1912 mahogany-interior coach, and Apostle Isle, a 50-seat
dining car.
The excursions begin at the former depot in Spooner.
Special trips are planned throughout the year.

ATV trails
Wild Rivers Trail, a 96-mile trail running north/south through Douglas, Washburn, and Barron
counties, with 40 miles of it mostly paralleling Hwy. 53 in Washburn. Access is in Spooner, Minong, Trego, and other points
along the trail. ATV

Hiking trails
College Street Park Ski Trail, new 1.2-mile trail in city of Spooner with loops for beginners and intermediate skiers;
at city park on north end of College Street. Hiking permitted during spring, summer, and fall.
oHunt Hill Nature Center and Audubon Sanctuary, 4 1/2 miles of trails through prairie, bogs, and forests, with distances
on individual trails ranging from a quarter mile to 2 1/2 miles. Some trails are self-guided. Open for hiking from 9
a.m. to 5 p.m. Located 4.3 miles from Sarona on Hunt Hill Road, off of Audubon Road.
Sawyer Brook Springs Trail, a trail that runs through football field, woods, and along Sawyer Brook Springs in Shell
Lake. Access is behind Indianhead Arts and Education Center, 802 First St.
Shell Lake South Side Walking Trail, a one- to two-mile wood chip-covered loop through woods and meadows on Shell
Lake's south side. Access is along former railroad bed that parallels Hwy. 63.
Trego Nature Trail, three-mile loop that starts by the Namekagon River Bridge on Hwy. 63, about 1.4 miles east of the
St. Croix Riverway Visitor Center.
Trego Lake Trail, three loops totaling 3.6 miles. To get there, go north of Trego on Hwy. 53 to North River Road and
turn left (west). Go two miles to the parking lot on the south side of the road.

Beaver Brook Trail, multi-loop trail in wildlife area, 2.5 miles south of Spooner at Hwy. 53 and Cranberry Marsh Road.
Nordic Woods Trail, multi-loop system, novice to advanced; 14 miles east of Spooner on Hwy. 70, second entrance south
on Cty. Hwy. B.
College Street Park Ski Trail, 1.2-mile trail in city of Spooner with loops for beginners and intermediate skiers;
access at city park on north end of College Street.
Timberland Hills, 24-kilometer, multi-loop trail, with one stretch lighted for night skiing; 10 miles west of Spooner
on Hwy. 70, then south on Cty. Hwy. H.
Totagatic Trail, beginner and advanced loops; 1.5 miles north of Minong on Hwy. 53.
Trego Lake Trail, 5.8-kilometer system with loops for all skill levels. Go north of Trego on Hwy. 53 to North River
Road; turn left, then two miles to parking lot.

Snowmobiling
Washburn County has over 250 miles of state-funded groomed trails maintained by the Rolling Hills Snowmobile/ATV Club and
Minong/Wascott Area Trail Club.
Snowmobile trail maps are available at many business establishments in the county
and at the Washburn County Tourism Information Center, 122 N. River St., Spooner, WI 54801.
